- Updated: December 16, 2016
Traverse City, Michigan – December 16th, 2016 – The Marquette Redmen were feeding off the energy in the Traverse City West Titans’ gym, playing immediately after the Redettes took home the win against the lady Titans 50-37. The first quarter for the boys game was much closer, however, and the score was tied at 5-5 near the midway point of the quarter. A couple of minutes later, the Redmen held a
small two-point lead, but TC West fought back. Going into the second quarter, the Titans held a single-point lead over the Redmen.
First Quarter Score
Marquette Redmen: 13
TC West Titans: 14
After trailing by one point at the end of the first quarter, the Marquette Redmen started having some serious trouble with the TC West Trojans. Just over two minutes into the second, they found themselves trailing by an astonishing 9 points. Their run was only stopped by a foul, and Joe Ostrowsky was able to tack on a few points to Marquette’s score after a nice inbounds pass. The Trojans made four three-point shots in the first quarter and a half, and that helped them stay in front of Marquette. The game wasn’t out of sight yet for the Redmen, but they trailed the Titans by a significant margin going into halftime.
First Half Score
Marquette Redmen: 22
TC West Titans: 36
It was going to be a tough second half of play if the Marquette Redmen wanted to make up some ground against the TC West Titans, who they trailed by 14 points at the start of the second half. Soon though, it was 41-24, as the Marquette boys double overtime win earlier in the week was showing in their fatigue. Marquette started to feel the love however, and halfway through the quarter, the narrowed their deficit to just six points. Soon, it was a one-score ballgame, and Luke O. put Marquette in front 41-40 on a great field goal through traffic. Very late in the quarter, it was 45-43, but it would all come down to the final minutes of the game.
Third Quarter Score
Marquette Redmen: 45
TC West Titans: 44
Holding onto a single point lead, the Marquette Redmen had their hands full dealing with the TC West Titans. With just six minutes left to play, Marquette led 50-44, but the Titans held control of the ball and scored making it a four point game. With just over four minute in the game remaining, the Redmen held onto their narrow advantage, but Marquette was approaching putting the Titans into the bonus. At the three minute mark, the Redmen held a six point lead, 56-50, and the TC West players appeared dazed and confused at Marquette’s amazing comeback. It would all come down to the final seconds, but Marquette was able to hold off the charging Titans to take the win.
