The Marquette Redettes(55) Take on the Petoskey Northmen(35) in the 2nd Annual Redette Shootout on Fox Sports Marquette

Marquette, MI – December 28th, 2016 – It was the championship game for the second annual Redette shootout, and the Marquette Redettes were ready for their game against the Petoskey Northmen. Marquette won the tip off to start the game, however the Northmen got onto the scoreboard first. The Redettes answered back on their very next drive, and that would start a six point scoring run for the charging Marquette team. The Redettes held a five point lead with just one minute remaining in the first quarter, and they would go into the second ready to take home the win.

It remained a close game going into the second quarter as the Marquette Redettes held a narrow advantage over the Northmen. Something clicked with the Redettes, and they exploded out of the gate in the second quarter, scoring a quick five points. Marquette was keeping the pressure up, employing a full press to stop any scoring chances from Petoskey. The Redettes were able to more than double their score from the first quarter, and that secured their lead going into halftime.

It seemed like the game was all but in the bag for the Marquette Redettes, who were leading the Petoskey Northmen by nearly 10 points at the start of the second half. Despite playing extremely well in the first half, the Northmen slowly but surely began to work their way back into the game. Near the halfway mark of the third quarter, it remained a tight contest, but Marquette seemed to realize that their game was on the line. By the end of the third quarter, the Redettes had once again extended their lead, maintaining a small advantage for the start of the final quarter.

Petosky Northmen: 28
The Petoskey Northmen fought their way back to within just six points to start the fourth, but the Marquette Redettes could taste the victory. Marquette kicked up their efforts on defense, and that kept the Northmen’s scoring down to just four points in the first half of the final quarter. With just under three minutes left in the game, the Redettes held a 14 point lead, and they looked to play strong defense in the final minutes of the game. They kept the scoring going, and by the time the final buzzer sounded, the Redettes were leading by an impressive 20 points.
