Starting the first inning off, the Westwood Patriots were at the plate, and thanks to a walk, the Patriots had the first base-runner of the game. The Marquette Redettes‘ pitcher was having hard time finding the strike zone early, but she calmed down as the first inning advanced. Jillian Koski drove home the first run of the game on a nice single for the Patriots, then she was able to advance to second on a past ball. With only one out, Westwood was able to drive in two more runs and give themselves a 3-0 lead. Westwood kept on hammering the Redettes, and they led 8-0 at the bottom of the first inning. Marquette got onto the scoreboard just a few batters after starting their turn, and they hoped to close the score gap down.
