This Is A Misdemeanor

It’s looking more and more like Roger Goodell may bring the hammer down on Tom Brady.

Now, it’s not a question of whether or not Brady will get dinged with a suspension, but rather how long it will be. And to hear all the speculation, dude’s about to have plenty of free time on his hands.

Gary Myers, who writes for the New York Daily News says, “In conversations I’ve had with several key courses, who always have a good sense of what goes on at 345 Park Ave, there is little doubt that Goodell considers Brady’s role in deflategate a serious violation. The NFL is convinced, according to sources, that connecting all the dots of the evidence supplied by Ted Wells leads to one conclusion: Brady cheated.”

So he cheated. And didn’t cooperate with the investigation, two things the league absolutely hates. So what kind of suspension would that warrant. According to’s Mike Giardi, the Patriots are bracing for a suspension in the 6-8 game range. C’mon.

Sure, he cheated. He lied about it. And he didn’t give them what they wanted in the investigation, so yes, a suspension is warranted. But 6-8 games? That’s absurd.

Remember, it was Goodell who suspended Ray Rice initially for two games, for knocking his then fiancée out and dragging her out of an elevator. But he’s going to smash Brady with 6 or 8 games, for probably having knowledge of a couple of flunkies letting some air out of the footballs.? That’s ridiculous.

Again, this is a misdemeanor not a felony; and yes, the cover-up is always worse than the crime. But let’s make sure this punishment fits this crime. No matter what, this should cost him a game. I’d have no problem if it were two, but you don’t suspend a guy 6 games or half a season for that.

Goodell has to know that; just like he has to know that Brady will appeal any over-the-top punishment. And will probably win. No smoking gun. Just plenty of circumstantial evidences and texts from a couple of boobs.

Again, they did it, Brady knew about it, and they were caught. That’s worth a punishment. But not six games. Get real.
