Saturday At Santa Anita

The media is billing it as the rematch: the three year old champion California Chrome going up against the two year old champ, Shared Belief, a horse my wife Janet and I own in a partnership. They’re taking about a rematch from the Breeders’ Cup Classic: problem is, Chrome finished third, Shared Belief finished fourth: and the winner, Bayern who smashed into Shared Belief out of the gate isn’t here.

So it’s not a rematch: but there are rivalries: a friendly one between Team Chrome and Team Shared Belief.

And a less friendly one between Baffert and… well, pretty much everyone else. Bayern’s not here, but Baffert has another one who is. He always does. In this case, rising star, Hoppertunity. No Bayern, but it’s still an amazing race… and this is exactly what this sport needs right now.

Just know, it’s not really a rematch…and it’s definitely not a two horse race. Oh, and clones, don’t bet Shared Belief. Doesn’t mean I don’t think he’ll win, it means he probably won’t be a good bet.

Clean trips, safe travels, no controversy and may the best horse win it; and… no excuses when it’s over. Let’s get ready to rumble and we’ll see y’all at the races, Saturday at Santa Anita.
