Phils Lose to Division II

The Philadelphia Phillies just lost their first game of the spring. No big thing. No one really cares whether you win or lose in Spring Training. Unless of course, you lose to Tampa. Not the Rays, mind you. The University of. Yeah, I said it. You lost 6-2 to the University of Tampa Spartans. There’s always been that debate, can the best team in college beat the worst team in any sport. And the answer has always been a resounding No. Until now.

But look at the bright side, Phillies fan. At least your team plays in the NL East instead of that insanely difficult Division II of the NCAA. Let’s face it, the Phillies are the 76ers of Major League Baseball. The only difference is at least the 76ers get more lottery balls out of tanking. Earning a top pick in the NBA Draft means something. Whereas in the MLB Dradt, the Phillies would only earn the rights to some pimply faced 17-year-old high school pitcher who could easily just check out before he even reaches Double-A ball.

While the rest of us are counting down the days till baseball season begins, the city of Philadelphia is already counting down the days until baseball season ends. Listen Phillies, logistics aside, you might want to go ahead and cancel your upcoming games against DeVry, ITT Tech, and Clearwater Junior High. Just a thought. However, you have to feel the worst for the University of Tampa players. They didn’t have much time to celebrate their upset win over the 2008 World Series Champions yesterday, because, you know, it was a school night. You don’t want to start spring training buy losing to some kids counting down to Spring Break.
