Boomer Esiason on John Elway: ‘I love the fact that he is not going to sit on his hands’

The NFL Today analyst Boomer Esiason said Denver Broncos Vice President of Football Operations, John Elway, is the same front office executive as he was as a player. Elway parting ways with coach John Fox within 24 hours of their season ending loss to the Indianapolis Colts wasn’t surprising to Esiason.

“John Elway has always been about one thing and one thing only,” Esiason told The Jim Rome Show. “From the day he was drafted by the Colts and demanded his trade to the Broncos until the day he retired to now where he is basically the general manager – de facto president of this NFL team, is about winning Super Bowls.”

Esiason says Elway invested a lot in the 2014 Denver Broncos and wasn’t happy with how they played down the stretch of the season.

“They spent a lot of money on this team and especially on defense,” said Esiason. “He was not happy with John Fox, the way that John Fox allowed this kind of season to get away from them a little bit, that they lost their edge.”

The former NFL MVP Esiason is a fan of the Hall of Famer Elway’s aggressive front office approach.

“I appreciate what John Elway is doing, I really do,” Esiason told The Jim Rome Show. “I love the fact that he is not going to sit on his hands and allow maybe a coaching staff that got stale and maybe lost its way to ruin what he believes is really a great chance to get there as long as Peyton Manning stays with them.”
