Andre Ellington on Larry Fitzgerald: ‘A lot of people kind of doubt him’

Arizona running back Andre Ellington wasn’t surprised head coach Bruce Arians didn’t play it safe deep in Cardinal territory late against Philadelphia. Instead of trying to pick up a first down on 3rd and 5 from their own 25, Carson Palmer hit John Brown for a game-winning 75-yard touchdown pass with 81 seconds left. Ellington said Arians’ MO is about not being afraid and he showed it in yesterday’s 24-20 win over Philadelphia.

“It shows that he’s not playing scared,” Ellington told The Jim Rome Show. “That’s one thing he coaches us to do – never play scared and he’s going to take chances if it’s there. I felt like he saw something before that play. He called that play and it worked out in our favor.”

The second year running back is happy with their 6-1 record at this point, but doesn’t think they’re the best team in the NFL.

“Not at all,” said Ellington. “I mean we feel very confident in each other and our team and what we have around here, but we can’t get complacent. We still have a long season ahead of us. Our job is just to come in every Monday and go to work and get ready for our next opponent.”

Ellington however was pleased with veteran Larry Fitzgerald’s game against Philadelphia. The 8-time Pro Bowler had his best game of the season with 7 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown.

“A lot of people kind of doubt him. They say a lot of negative things about him just because he’s not having that breakout year,” said Ellington. “But for him to have a breakout game like he did this past Sunday, it was good to see. He’s a guy who’s always working, throughout the week, he’s bringing it to the practice field and for him to have the success that he had yesterday during the game, it was good to see.”
